Volunteers are a vital part of the Armitt’s small, friendly team, They support a variety of roles in the museum, from welcoming visitors at the reception desk to providing research assistance and assisting with collections care.

Volunteering can be a great way to meet new people, develop skills, share knowledge and gain work experience. The Armitt also participates in the Northern Museums Volunteer Pass Scheme, which means that our volunteers get free entry or other benefits at 150 museums across the Northern region, and we give free entry to Pass holders from other museums.

If you have a friendly manner, an interest in the Armitt and some time to give, we would love to hear from you: email Sue at for more information.
